About Joy

Joy Partain

Joy Partain leverages two decades of experience in Houston’s corporate and nonprofit sectors to help clients with media relations, branding, crisis management, fundraising, corporate philanthropy, diversity and inclusion, and government affairs. She is known for problem-solving and relationship-building with reporters, elected officials, business leaders, artists, and community groups.

Joy learned P.R. and fundraising at Houston Grand Opera, one of the world’s most innovative theater entities. Since then, she has led marketing and communications for two other innovative nonprofits, Asia Society and Fort Worth Opera. In her first corporate role, she fell in love with creating win-win partnerships at Amegy Bank that met the bank’s community goals and helped nonprofits meet their funding goals. While running external affairs for Kroger’s Houston division, Joy turned the company into a hometown hero by dispersing millions of dollars in Hurricane Harvey relief and conducting dozens of Harvey media interviews.

Joy is a proud Leadership Houston Class XXXIII fellow and a frequent guest speaker about best practices in corporate philanthropy and community relations. Read more here.

Testimonials

Joy’s coaching has been an integral component in the growth of Comics at the Corner.

I consider myself a compelling storyteller; however, with Joy’s help, I’ve been able to tailor my story and leverage it for civic investment and media coverage.

Joy Partain offers top-notch media training. She has trained more than a dozen members of our team, from frontline staff to our CEO. Not only did she tailor the training based on skill level, she also did her homework on our organization and used true-to-life examples of likely scenarios to help us hone our talking points.

Catherine B. VillarrealDirector of Communications, Coalition for the Homeless of Houston/Harris County

Joy generated more media coverage for The Jung Center in two months than we have received in the past 60 years.

Sean Fitzpatrick, PhD, LPCExecutive Director, The Jung Center

Joy has been an essential part of CarePartners' growth. Her expertise in communications and public relations has been vital to advancing our profile across the city and region.

Katie Scott, MPHPresident, CarePartners

She provides sound counsel in seasons of organization strength as well as seasons of challenge or conflict. What makes her unique is her ability to teach. She gives specific, actionable direction without shying away from the deeper barriers that keep most of us from communicating effectively. Through my coaching sessions with Joy, I was able to better understand my communication goals and how to meet them.
